Exploring the area
Whether you aim to explore the area by foot, bike, car, boat or by public transport, you have much choice. These are just a few recommendations.
A fem minutes walk away is Sletten, a small fisherman's village with a lovely harbour. Sletten Kro, the local restaurant, is highly recommended. The beach, Peter Mads, is a must, if the weather is right. Lave Skov, the nearby woods, is perfect for a long walk and stretches in to the neighbouring town of Nivå. Nivå Harbour houses Trekosten, a local restaurant well worth a visit.
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, is not to be missed and a must for most visitors to this north-eastern corner of Denmark. The old town of Helsingør 15 minutes drive away and easily accessed by public transport and a beautiful bike ride along the coast away. Helsingør home to Kronborg - Hamlet's Castle and from here you can jump on a ferry to reach Helsingborg in Sweden 20 minutes later. Further up the coast from Helsingør you will find beautiful beaches and cosy towns. Hornbæk with its long sandy beaches and many cafés and restaurants is particularly popular, as is Gilleleje, Rågeleje and the wonderful Tisvildeleje furthest away.
Going south from Humlebæk, Copenhagen is a half hour drive away or 45 minutes by train. To explore the city in advance, Visit Copenhagen. I highly recommend renting a bicycle for the day or taking a canal tour, with or without a guide.
